Searching For South Carolina Criminal Records

When looking for Criminal records in South Carolina, it is important to know where to look.  On Google alone, there are pages of websites that supposedly take you to South Carolina court records.  Most of these sites are independent sites, not connected to the South Carolina state government.  As a result, the sites charge you for “joining” their company or signing up for their program.  These sites offer information from any state, and they are not official state websites. They usually charge for their information, have you sign or accept a statement that says that you acknowledge the fact that they are a 3rd party organization and they are not responsible for any mistakes or misinformation on the site.

On the other hand, the official South Carlina government site has actual jurisdiction over the information and Criminal records on the site.  The address of the official South Carolina Criminal records site is www.sc.gov.  Once you get on the site, it can be somewhat difficult or confusing to even find Criminal records.

If you go online to the official website there is a section in the middle of the main webpage that says “Onine Services” but you will not see anything about Criminal records there.  At the bottom of that section is a little subheading that says “more online services”.  Click on that and it will take you to another page that has several sections, each with various topics to click on.  Scroll down to the “Health and Public Safety” section and you will find a subsection called “Criminal records Search” that you can click on and get the information you need.  There are also other subsections that have to do with criminal issues, such as sex offenders.

Though it takes a little time getting to the right section of the website, once you are there you should be able to get the information you need.  There may be a basic fee that is paid to the court for the information that you need.  The fee goes directly o the cout and there are no extra fees, such as the fees that outside and independent companies bill, usually as a research or handling fee.
