Virginia Criminal Records Search

There are two ways to obtain Criminal records in Virginia. To get to the information and instructions simply go to www.vsp.state.va.us/CJIS_Criminal_Record_Check.shtm, which is the official Virginia State Government website on the Virginia State Police page.

One method of requesting a Criminal record involves submitting a signed and notarized “Criminal record Name Search” form SP-167. The instructions are included with the document and the entire packet can be downloaded, printed or viewed on the Virginia State Police Forms page. That page is in a section on the website above and you will find it on the column on the left side of the web page.

The Criminal History Records Search is the second method of requesting a Criminal records. Using form SP-230. This form does not need notarization. More specific information and fees are listed on this web page which will assist you in getting the information you need.

In the middle of the web page is the main address of the department if you choose to write. If you would like to contact the departent more quicky, there is contact information at the bottom of the page and there is also an email link at the bottom of the page just above the contact sections. It allows you to click and write on a form, sending questions or messages directly to the Virginia State Police.
